Terje Nypan

Terje M. Nypan (06.10.1949) is Senior Counsellor for Riksantikvaren (Directorate for Cultural Heritage) of the Royal Ministry of the Environment. Mr. Nypan holds a PhD in Sociology of organisations.

From 2003 he chaired the ‘European Working Group on EU Directives and Cultural Heritage’ with 16 European nations. From 2008 to 2012 he became Chair of the newly created EHLF (European Heritage Legal Forum); a government coordination group of 21 countries consulting on EU legislation development and the cultural heritage.

He has been active as expert for the EU Commission on cultural heritage; research, management, economy and policies. In 2011 he contributed to the ICOMOS Poland / Norway system design for OUV indicator monitoring of WHS sites. He represents Norway on the Management Board of the ‘CEN TC 346 Standardisation on Cultural Heritage’ committee and in the ‘Reflection Group on EU and Cultural Heritage’.

He joined the Royal Norwegian Ministry of Environment as a project manager in 1996 and the Directorate for Cultural Heritage authorities in 2000. He formerly worked with business development for the Swiss FAOW Foundation in Basel, as a Research Manager in Sri Lanka and in Business Management. For 5 years he was CEO of a consultancy and for 2 years worked for the international ‘PR and Communication’ company; Burson-Marsteller.
