It is my great pleasure to announce that, from September 17th to 19th of 2013, the City of Seville will host the International Meeting on Contemporary Architecture in Historic Cities. Proposed by Spain and Seville to the World Heritage Committee, the Meeting was registered in the Committee’s official Recommendation to Seville during the 36th Meeting in Saint Petersburg in June 2012.
The Meeting is supported by the UNESCO World Heritage Center, the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) and the Organization of World Heritage Cities (OWHC), in collaboration with the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport.
Through the precise analysis of novel interpretations of heritage and its adaptability in historic cities, it is my hope that this international Meeting will contribute to the debate on the incorporation of contemporary elements into historic urban landscapes.
With numerous international experts and professional specialists providing their insights and contributions, I am confident that the Meeting will inspire further advances in the study of the dynamic management of heritage cities, as well as identify new decision-making instruments, metrics and criteria in the field.
In light of the importance of this topic for Seville and other World Heritage Cities, I cordially invite you to attend this Meeting in order to join forces and forge collaborations for the benefit of our historic spaces.
Respectfully,
Juan Ignacio Zoido Álvarez
